Yummy Yogurt

Yummy Yogurt
Today was "time to make the yogurt"!  That seems to be every 10 days, give or take.  It's a habit I've had for... well... decades.  Today, the 2 Donvier Yogurt Makers were sitting on my kitchen counter making the next batch.  These electric yogurt makers did the work for 7 hours & 30 minutes.  Then, the individual 6 oz. containers were placed in the fridge.

Yogurt is very easy to prep!  I like the individual 6 oz. container yogurt makers.  Years ago I purchased two.  2 batches were just as easy as making a single batch.

The process is easy!  The needed milk is boiled & then placed in a large bowl to cool to a required temperature.  My "temperature spoon" comes in handy here.  It came with the Donvier Yogurt Maker.  Then, a culture is added to the cooled milk & stirred.  Place milk in containers, snap on the lid & set the timer.

Complete directions here.

Yogurt is always enjoyed at lunch time here.  I like to add a little Freezer Jam & Crunchy Oats to this very tasty source of calcium!

Enjoy!

~Yummy Yogurt~

Yummy Yogurt

The top shelf of our fridge was a tad empty!  No wonder, I'd been looking at the reserved spot for Yummy Yogurt.  Yesterday, 1 container of the delicious plain yogurt was sitting on the shelf.  There was only one thing to do!  It was time to make the yogurt!  A portion of the 1 remaining container was used to prep a double batch.  My 2 Donvier yogurt makers were taken out of the cabinet & I was ready.

Using a yogurt maker this is a very easy food to make.  The milk is brought to a boil in a large pot on the stove top, cooled a bit & then the culture is added & stirred in.  The culture?  It's yogurt from a previous batch.  (For the first batch, purchase an unflavored container of yogurt.)  Pour milk mixture into the individual containers, snap on the lid, place in the yogurt maker & set the timer.  Hours later- presto- it's yogurt!  Refrigerate & enjoy starting the next day.  Below is a snapshot of my PDF for Yummy Yogurt.

***After making several batches of Yogurt, if it seems to be more tart or less solid, that's a clue it's time to purchase a new container & begin with a new culture.  DIY Yogurt is yummy & also inexpensive to make.

For over 35 years I've enjoyed making my almost weekly batches of yogurt.  It's usually part of our daily lunches.  Yogurt has always been one of my family's sources of  Calcium.  We flavor it with fresh fruit or Freezer Jam.

Enjoy!

Banana Nutmeg Cream of Wheat

Open those curtains and let the sun shine in!  The remaining snow has melted and we are on our way to Spring!  O.K., maybe I'm a little too enthusiastic... our temps were in the low 60°F range on Monday...however, it's chilly today!  Banana Nutmeg flavored Cream of Wheat did taste so good at breakfast this AM!  A hot cereal on a cold Spring day!  Probably of most importance to me is the daily Banana (containing Potassium) is already checked off my "should eat" list for the day.  Woohoo!

This fruit still remains on my least favorite food list.  However, I've learned it does compliment other foods quite nicely.  In this case, slices of banana added to the sauce pot while the cereal is cooking does add a great flavor.  Usually, I add Cinnamon to the Soy Milk, Cream of Wheat Cereal, sliced Banana mixture.  This AM I learned that Nutmeg gives this bland hot cereal a little zing.  Nice!  It may be a mild tasting cereal on its own, but adding sliced banana & Nutmeg to the pot = Yum!

Enjoy!

Yummy Yogurt

Today, many times when I walked past our decorated Christmas Tree and admired the ornaments, memories floated ... There are so many treasured pieces that grace our tree.  Christmas' past - even from my childhood - are represented. Rudolph still has a "nose so bright" even though he is a tad faded after a few decades. It cannot be that long, can it? Ah, yes it is!  :)

The nostalgia did not last long.  There was Yummy Yogurt to prep.  With all of the hubbub of getting ready for the holidays, the healthy staple foods that we enjoy daily need to be located quickly when the fridge door is opened for the next few days.

Yogurt is a food my fam has always devoured.  Need that calcium!  Today my two Donvier Yogurt Makers quietly did their thing.  The 16 six ounce containers will last a few days.  :)  The 16th container will be saved as the culture, so the next new batch can be made - next week.

I will be settling in to finish one last project using my Janome (sewing machine).

This weekend will be filled with FUN!

Peace to all!
Merry Christmas!

Enjoy!
